Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock, Period, No Erasies

You’ve probably heard the word dibs, like I have dibs on that piece of apple pie.  Or shotgun, which you yell as you approach the car so you can sit in the front seat of the car instead of getting squeezed in the back seat.

Well our family used the phrase – Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock, Period, No Erasies.  It meant the same thing.  I get that piece of pie – Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock, Period, No Erasies.  I get the front seat of the car – Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock, Period, No Erasies.

I looked up in the Urban Thesaurus and found some others:

  • Mines – It means possession.  “Those books are mines.”
  • Fives – After standing up from his chair, the person announces “fives” and then you can do whatever you like as long as you are back within five minutes.
  • Call – To lay claim to something or someone, secure right of ownership. “I call being first in line for food.”
  • Bagsy – To claim something for yourself, or the other way round. There is no higher authority than a Bagsy.
  • Yoink – Immediately transfers ownership from the original owner to the person using the word.

You probably noticed that the rest of the world uses one word, but our family thought seven would be better.  I also wonder if our ancestors used Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock and then someone erased it because they forgot the period and forgot to disallow erasing.  Oh the horror!

Well I’m going to sit in the front seat of the car and get some apple pie now.  Tick, Tick, Knock, Knock, Period, No Erasies.

  1. Padiddle! Car with one headlight. Call it first and the one you love gives you a kiss on the cheek (if driving).
