Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed,
The world is sleeping,
Holy Star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.
We attended a Madrigal production and one of the numbers was the hauntingly beautiful song Still, Still, Still. What a contrast to what really happens in our Advent season!
How often are we so still that we can hear the falling snow?
I can count that on…umm…zero fingers.
So my mantra this Advent is going to be Still, Still, Still.
In the midst of nonstop Christmas commercials, advertisements, promotions – Still, Still, Still.
When the schedule starts to fill with parties, gatherings, expectations – Still, Still, Still.
When you read or watch stories of hate, anger, or cruelty pray for the world to hush. To be Still, Still, Still.
That instead of a competition for presents and spending, keep a vigil for the gift of the Christ child. And stay completely Still, Still, Still.
So still you can hear the falling snow.
Start by listening to the song, Still, Still, Still:

Bruce, It seems no matter how we try to make this time of year less stressful, it tends to cascade on you without warning. Finding that time of quiet feels impossible, yet our souls sure need it. Thank you for the reminder to be still…..and bringing to mind that lovely hymn.
